???th rebuttal; fourth wall

[ It's another one of those times, isn't it? Naegi is a little apprehensive when he wakes up in Ecruteak City, fully expecting having to deal with those Monobear Eevees or being chased by a Beartic again. Instead, all he gets is his gut telling him to climb the Tin Tower. He's not sure why that is suddenly such a good idea, but he figures that he might as well do it - if nothing else, maybe sitting at the top and admiring the view is the key to a quiet and unremarkable fourth wall weekend.

And after the last two times, all Naegi wants is an unremarkable event that does not involve bears.

What awaits him at the top is everything but unremarkable, however - the rainbow bird isn't quite as big he expected, but its mere presence is enough to make Naegi tremble. Ho-oh's wings are bright and colourful and almost seem like they could encompass the entire world if outspread. It stares down at him with striking red eyes in a way that almost makes him feel compelled to bow down to it. Then it suddenly takes off into the wind, a rainbow trailing behind it as it leaves Naegi standing there dumbfounded.

He's not sure how he managed to act so fast, but a few seconds later he's grabbed his camera from inside his bag, his finger on the button and click. He'll check if the picture came out decent later (and send it to Nanami as promised), but for now he's just going to. Stand right there on the roof and look like he just had some sort of religious experience.

Feel free to approach him; he likely won't mind and otherwise he's going to be content spending his time admiring the view. ]

[And then there's this asshole who's busy putting his gun away because large birds and other monstrous creatures make him a little jumpy.

Once it's safely holstered, he walks over to check...out...oh for god's sake that's Naegi isn't it.]

...Nerve of iron. That thing could've eaten you in one snap and you've not even the sense to look rattled...

[he's saying it in a nice way but holy shit, dude]
beholdmydemons: (... - awkward)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-06 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
[pretty well, actually]

I mean as I say. You don't even have a Pokemon out.

[...whiiiiich neither does he, but details.]
beholdmydemons: (unhappy - wry grin)

[The most baffled look in the world.

Buddy, it's...it's a giant bird. Giant things eat things. You don't Disney Princess at giant things with that much confidence EXCEPT APPARENTLY YOU DO BECAUSE THAT'S HOW YOU ROLL?]

...Here you stand uneaten, so I can't argue the tactic. [he gives up man.] What was that?
beholdmydemons: (happy - well fancy that)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-06 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
[LESSON ONE NEVER ASSUME THEY WON'T]

...Where've I heard that name before... [The implication of that is not lost on him, though. Hee.] "Pure-hearted", eh?
beholdmydemons: (talk - yeaaaah)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-06 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Don't discount a story that easily! [He reaches out with his Gauntlet-less fist and raps lightly against the back of Naegi's shoulder with it, still grinning like an asshole.] One time or another you'd have called fire-breathing dogs just a story, aye?

...I mean, I think the notion of "granting happiness" is an odd one, but. [SHRUGS EXAGGERATEDLY his point stands. He does remember where he's heard the name before now, though.]
beholdmydemons: (talk - universal gesture for crazy)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-06 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well...happiness doesn't just rise on its own, right? You're happy when a good thing happens to you. But here the story just says "eternal happiness" - how does it go about that? To be happy no matter what else is happening would be more like a drunken haze. [yaso-magastuhiiii] What a poor thing that would be to give as a reward.
beholdmydemons: (... - shut up navarre)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-06 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
And there's plenty of stories about gods granting good fortune or full larders or any of the things that could bring happiness...so it just sounds odd to my ear. Besides gods and spirits never being quite so, ah, blindly generous, but Pokemon are accommodating creatures...
beholdmydemons: (talk - here's the plan)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-11 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
But there's only one of the bird itself, aye?

There's an idea, though. The question then goes to why it bothers going before people, with nothing to give or nothing desired.

oh wow i fucked up that html

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-11 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[....HUH]

Well enough! [He shoves his hands in his pockets, apparently content with that.] So, where is this, anyhow? I was still in Goldenrod last I looked about.
beholdmydemons: (unhappy - wry grin)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-13 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Out of one weird thing and straight into another. I'd needle you for that, but, uh...I think there's a saying about stones and glass?
beholdmydemons: (happy - hoooooy)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-06-13 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
[HELL YEAH FTE now gimme shit c:]

I'd like that! It's been a while since I've taken in a view like this.

[Let's go check out what we can see by the edges.]
beholdmydemons: (happy - feel like a king)

There's Goldenrod in the distance...there, the tops of the buildings. Even it looks small, like one of those models in monster movies.

[...thank you for that uplifting comparison]

I wonder how far out we can see from here. Three days' walk? Four days?
