???th rebuttal; fourth wall
[ It's that time of the year again, and Naegi has decided to stay away from high places this time if he gets a say in where he's going to spend the day. He'd rather just have a nice, quiet afternoon with nothing too insane happening to him. The large machine that appeared in the middle of the street from nowhere reminds him of murderschool but he remembers getting some nice stuff out of it, so it's... actually acceptable and doesn't bother him too much; it beats explosive Monobears any day of the week, really. ]
I wonder what I'll get this time?
[ There are large piles of Monobear coins surrounding the machine, so all he has to do is to scoop up a handful and shove it into the machine and see what comes out.
This site can be used to randomize the item you get out of it, should you want to give it a try. ]

So Chihiro is just going to cautiously approach. He's not getting too close yet, though.]
Naegi-kun? ...where did this come from?
[action]
[action]
[He knows some strange stuff has been happening this weekend, but this is by far the strangest yet.]
[action]
[action]
[action]
....Not bad tbh. ]
[action]
Oohh, I wonder if that would be okay for Pokemon to eat...
[Bird Pokemon, maybe?]
Can I try?
[action]
Of course you can, Fujisaki-kun.
[action]
Wow this is actually really nice though.]
Oh, these are pretty!
[action]
[ Makoto Naegi: FTE gift advisor. ]
[action]
[Christmas is right around the corner, after all. Maybe some benevolent force knew that and thus that is why the machine has appeared.]
How many coins are there, anyway?
[Action]
[A deep, but noticeably feminine voice speaks up behind Naegi. Familiar, and knowingly curious about the situation at hand.]
Isn't it, Naegi-kun?
[Action]
Oogami-san!
[Action]
[Sakura stood proudly, giving the young man a curt nod. Beside her, stood a tyrouge, trying to emulate his trainer's stance.]
I assume you know where we are?
[Action]
This is a different world, and the region we're in is called Johto.

[Route veterans know exactly what's happened, of course, but for Komaeda it's just been baffling. A flash of light assaulted him when he woke up, and now he's riding his Tauros around a strange city with no clue how he's supposed to get back to Violet. (He has a gym to beat, dammit.) But if Komaeda's learned one thing from Murder Island, it's that standing around when something weird happens is not a good idea; he's got to investigate.]
[Which leads him to the Monomono Machine, and perhaps more importantly, a familiar face. TELL HIM WHAT'S GOING ON, SENPAI...]
Naegi-senpai?

When did you get here?
no subject
[It's only due to the grace of his Pokégear that he knows where "here" is at all.]
What about you?
no subject
[ ... ]
You're still new, so this is your first time experiencing this. Every six months or so, things get really strange here.
no subject
...This is a regular occurrence?
[Honestly. Pokéland just keeps getting weirder and weirder. So, like any responsible adult, Komaeda takes a monocoin and pops it into the machine, just to see what comes out...]
[White Rabbit Earmuffs.]
no subject
[ Not bad, Komaeda! Those earmuffs are better than tumbleweed or underwear, at least. ]
no subject
[Quietly... hangs earmuffs... around neck... look he needed earmuffs okay]
Do we keep the items?
[action,] murderschool flashbacks
[ don't mind the pigtailed girl staring in confusion at the machine like she's never seen anything like it before
... Which is exactly the case actually so ]
What's this thing s'pposed ta be? Is it a vending machine? ... A real fancy one?
[action,] so many flashbacks
You insert some of those coins and you get capsules containing various items.
action
[ well why not
she scoops up a coin from the ground and idly rolls it between her fingers for a moment before slotting it into the machine and it spits out
a... magazine...? ]
... s'this s'pposed ta be? What kinda vending machine spits out fashion magazines?
action
action
But this...
[ she makes a face at the magazine. ]
It ain't useful at all.
action
action
Oh.
R--right. Yeah.
[ going a little red as she pages through the glossy magazine. ]
Some a'this stuff is weird though. Like, real weird. S'wrong with eyebrows? And why would ya shave 'em off?
action
I dunno. Maybe it's some weird new trendy thing?
action
[ flicking through a little more ]
'n all the makeup... gotta take hours ta put this stuff on.
action
[action]
[For some reason, this machine...really rubs Anna the wrong way, but, hey, she's kind of curious about it! I mean, really, what's the worst that can happen, right?]
So I just put one of these weird coins in and I get a prize? Is that how this works?
[action]
[ Because that's a good idea. Let's pretend there are no Monobears on it. ]
And yep, that's exactly how it works! Some of the prizes are kinda bizarre, but most are decent.

[She sticks her coin in there and gives it a spin...and out comes a pair of roller slippers!]
Woah! Are these cozy shoes on wheels..?!
no subject
Yes! You can roll around indoors if you put them on.
